Villeroy & Boch make an excellent range of ceramic sinks but beware! We ordered a V& B sink from Broughton and Crangrove, via a local builders merchant, on the 26th of June 2003. Promised delivery 3 to 4 weeks. It was finally delivered on the 7th of November, over 4 months later! Delivery then was only after a number of phonecalls to Germany by ourselves to find out what was wrong. Broughton and Crangrove said there were production problems in Germany, Germany knew nothing of this.
Broughton and Crangrove made mistake after mistake, delivering one sink without even an overflow hole, this was sent out by mistake, as it belonged to another customer. Another sink was sent, without tap holes, this was returned on B & Cs' Transport and was lost! They spent almost two weeks looking for this before pressure from our phonecalls to Germany made them order another. This arrived within two weeks, which really makes you wonder why the delivery overall was over 4 months.
When finally delivered we would have rejected the sink except that we could not expect our client to wait any longer. The tap hole had been drilled in what we would regard at the front of the sink, so naturally wanting the tap at the back we were forced to have the ugly ribbed side of the sink facing you as you open the door. Villeroy and Boch say that the sink is universal, although what we would regard as the front is nicely finished and glazed! (The sink concerned is a Condor 90B, if you do order one have the overflow on the left!)
I would not trust Broughton and Crangrove enough to place another order with them. If I did want a Villeroy and Boch sink then I would order through Maurice Lay Distributors, who quote realistic delivery dates and are cheaper.
Be wary of Villeroy & Bochs own words
"......let me say that I am not aware of the reasons as to why the initial delivery of the sink was delayed to the extent of time specified; whilst I am sorry for the inconvenience, Villeroy & Boch do not guarantee delivery times. Time frames given are for guidelines only and do not constitute a contractual agreement on delivery times" James Thompson, Technical Service Manager, Villeroy & Boch, London letter 12th November 2003
Villeroy and Boch have chosen not to tell me why the initial delivery of the sink was delayed. I have sent them a provisional copy of this account of what happened but received no comments.
